Description: Join ICES on a contract impacting national security as an Linux Systems Engineer.
A Linux Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Linux-based systems within an organization. They ensure the stability, security, and performance of Linux servers and workstations. The Linux Systems Engineer handles system configurations, software updates, troubleshooting, and supports IT projects involving Linux environments.
These positions are located in Alexandria, VA. All positions require an active/current TS/SCI securityclearance and be willing and able to pass an additional polygraph as needed.
As a Linux Systems Engineer, specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Duties:
Responsible for installing, updating, patching, removing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all existing and future installations of Red Hat Linux servers.
Provide technical support and training to end-users and IT staff for Linux systems.
Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls and access controls.
Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues promptly.
Plan and execute software updates and deployments using package management tools.
Continuously monitor system performance and resource utilization, making adjustments as needed.
Develop and manage backup and recovery procedures for Linux systems.
Implement and enforce IT policies and best practices for Linux environments.
Create and update documentation related to system configurations, procedures, and
policies.
Required:
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS)
Proficiency in system administration tasks such as user management, file permissions, and system monitoring.
Skills in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate tasks and processes.
Knowledge of security best practices for Linux systems, including firewall and SELinux configuration.
Understanding of network configurations and protocols related to Linux environments.
Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
Experience with package management and software deployment tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
Ability to optimize system performance and resource utilization.
Experience with backup and recovery solutions for Linux systems.
Ability to create and maintain detailed documentation for Linux systems.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
Ability to manage Linux-related projects and coordinate with IT teams.
Desired:
4+ years of experience administering and maintaining Linux Operating Systems. or a related field, specifically with Linux operating systems.
Experience with Linux on a virtualized platform (Nutanix, VMWare or Microsoft Hyper-V) is preferred.
